Greenclub launch sparks a surge of interest

GreenClub is in talks with more than 70 golf clubs and resorts in its first few weeks of operation – including a high-profile Open Championship venue – amid a surge of early interest.

On the back of the official launch of the company just a few weeks ago, GreenClub has been inundated with calls from golf venues eager to explore the prospect of generating their own energy from on-site solar installations.

The overall aim is to invest in partnerships with golf venues to reduce energy costs and generate new revenue streams in progressing towards carbon neutrality – a concept which has already gained the full attention of several venues, including one where the famous Claret Jug was presented in recent times.

With the costs of installation covered, it’s an enticing prospect for many clubs and venues – whether those venues have played host to the golfing greats or weekend hackers.

GreenClub chief executive, Liam Greasley, explained: “We’ve had enormous interest since the launch, which has been very encouraging. We’ve been really pleased and perhaps even a little surprised at the huge impact it’s had already.

“We’ve had a lot of very positive conversations, including one high-profile Open Championship course and a Ryder Cup venue which have expressed a keen interest in working with us. It’s clear that many within the golf industry agree that this could be a game-changer for them.

“While it is fantastic to be discussing potential plans with larger and high-profile venues, the attraction of our proposition is that it can work for so many different clubs and venues, regardless of size.

“The good thing about our proposition is that it is scalable. Smaller venues can see a huge difference just as much as the bigger properties and we’re still keen to talk to anyone who might be interested.”

GreenClub’s links as a principal partner of The PGA will also continue to play a key role in spreading the word throughout golf.

But away from golf, there has also been interest from other sports venues and urban regeneration projects, including a brand new European resort which will be the world’s first sustainable, carbon neutral resort, expected to be open within the next three years.

Greasley said: “We’ve had conversations with potential partners who are keen to do something as quickly as possible and hopefully, this will be realised within the next few months. Others are looking further ahead, but there are some exciting opportunities.”
