Crowborough Beacon Golf Club has reinforced its commitment to continual improvement with a significant programme of investment across course conditioning, infrastructure and member facilities as the 2026 season gathers pace.

Following recent improvements both on and off the course, the East Sussex club has introduced a new fleet of greenkeeping equipment as part of a six-figure investment to elevate playing conditions across the course. This is complemented by a long-term pathway programme, a new halfway house and upgrades to the terrace.

The new machinery includes a full suite of John Deere equipment including hybrid fairway mowers, walk-behind and hybrid triplex mowers, a rough mower and new sprayer for fertiliser and plant protection applications.

Additional operational equipment includes utility vehicles, a compact loader and an excavator, providing greater flexibility for ongoing maintenance and development work.

Alongside machinery investment, the club continues work on a multi-year pathway development programme launched in 2025.

The initiative is funded through the club’s Festival of Golf, which raised £21,000 in its first year. Proceeds from the six-day event are being reinvested into pathway construction, with the long-term aim of upgrading walkways across the course.

Working with Eco-Surfaces, the club has introduced a rubber mulch pathway system designed to provide improved year-round access while complementing the heathland landscape. The project also includes training for the club’s in-house team to support future installation work.

Following completion of a 660sqm pathway network linking the first hole, putting green and clubhouse approach in 2025, the next phase is scheduled for installation this year.

More than 600sqm of new pathways will be constructed around the sixth and seventh holes, and will also include landscaping, drainage improvements, heather planting and new grassed areas.

Further investment has been made in off-course facilities, with a new halfway house nearing completion. Positioned to serve the tenth, 12th and 14th holes, the building will include toilet facilities and provision for future food and beverage service.

An upgrade to the clubhouse terrace will introduce new outdoor furniture, while a separate £40,000 infrastructure project has replaced two condemned bridges with a new culvert, alongside associated landscaping work.

Club secretary Chris Dowrick said: “These investments reflect our ongoing focus on improving the course and facilities. From maintenance equipment to infrastructure upgrades, these projects are designed to improve playing conditions and the overall experience at Crowborough Beacon.

“The support from our members, particularly through the Festival of Golf, has helped us move forward with these projects, and we look forward to seeing the benefits over the coming seasons.”

Further developments are planned as part of the club’s long-term improvement programme.
