Both Troon and KemperSports recently announced new contracts with tribal nations.

Troon announced it will manage Teleli Golf Club in Sonora, California. Indigo Sports, one of Troon’s subsidiaries, will be in charge of operations, agronomy and sales and marketing.

Teleli Golf Club is a daily-fee course situated to the west of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The 6,559-yard course was designed by architect Robert Muir Graves and first opened in 1990. It has been owned by the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians since 2019 and functions as an amenity to both the nearby Black Oak Casino Resort and the community. The name “Teleli” is from the Me-Wuk language and translates to “Black Oak.”

Other features of the golf club include a practice range, multiple practice putting greens, a golf shop and the West Wind Bar and Grill, as well as a range of banquet facilities that can accommodate groups of up to 150 people for events such as weddings, parties, tournaments and more.

Lake of Isles

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation hired KemperSports to manage Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut. The tribe chose KemperSports because of the company’s experience in working with other tribal nations across the United States.

“Lake of Isles holds a cherished place in the hearts of our community, so we are overjoyed to embark on this new partnership with KemperSports to reinvigorate the property. We’re looking forward to seeing their demonstration of excellence and unwavering dedication as they work to present it as the preeminent golfing experience for our entire community,” said Rodney Butler, chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

The 36-hole club, located adjacent to Foxwoods Resort Casino, was designed by Rees Jones and opened in 2005. It comprises two courses: the North Course, a public resort course open to daily-fee golfers and Foxwood Resort Casino guests; and the South Course, a private member course.  wind their way through 900 acres of wooded Connecticut countryside and around a 90-acre lake.

The routing of both courses travels through 900 acres of wooded countryside and incorporates rolling terrain and island greens and tees. Other amenities at the club include a 50,000-square-foot clubhouse and a state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor golf academy and practice facility.

Both courses have also earned national recognition, ranking in Golf Digest’s top 10 best courses in Connecticut for 14 years in a row. Additionally, the North Course consistently ranks in the top 30 of Golfweek’s top 50 casino courses as well as in its list of the country’s top 200 resort courses over the past five years.
