From hidden canals and medieval art to inland dunes and boutique hospitality, Bernardus highlights what visitors can experience beyond the fairways

A round at Bernardus may be the reason to travel, but the historic city of Den Bosch and the wider landscapes of North Brabant offer plenty of reasons to extend the stay.

Located in Cromvoirt, just 15 minutes from Den Bosch, Bernardus provides an ideal base for travellers looking to combine championship golf with culture, gastronomy, nature and a more relaxed side of the Netherlands.

The experience begins at Bernardus, where the distinctive Day Membership concept turns a tee time into a full day at the destination. Golfers are welcomed with prepared trolleys and practice balls, while access to the gym, sauna, heated outdoor swimming pool and tennis court allows guests and non-playing partners to enjoy the wider facilities at their own pace.

At the heart of the destination is the Kyle Phillips-designed championship course, which hosted the Dutch Open on the DP World Tour from 2021 to 2023 and will welcome the Solheim Cup in September 2026. After the round, guests can stay at The Lodge, Bernardus’ intimate eight-room accommodation, or unwind over a drink or meal at Bernardus Café, a brasserie-style restaurant open seven days a week.

Food is an important part of the wider stay. Nami by Bernardus offers Michelin-starred dining, complemented by wines from Bernardus Winery in Carmel Valley, California. Beyond Bernardus, Den Bosch adds a lively mix of independent restaurants, cosy cafés and pavement terraces, together with its best-known local speciality, the Bossche Bol.

Officially known as ’s-Hertogenbosch, the city brings together medieval streets, historic architecture, independent boutiques and a compact centre that is easy to explore on foot. One of its most distinctive experiences is a boat trip through the Binnendieze, a network of waterways running beneath buildings and through the oldest parts of the city. The tours are operated by electric boats, offering a quieter and more sustainable way to experience Den Bosch from the water.

Den Bosch also has a rich artistic identity. Visitors can explore the legacy of Hieronymus Bosch at the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center, discover regional art and history at Het Noordbrabants Museum, or visit Design Museum Den Bosch for contemporary design and visual culture.

Outside the city, the landscape quickly opens into woodland, heathland and inland dunes. The nearby Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park offers walking, cycling and mountain biking routes, providing an easy contrast to a day on the course or in the city.

The wider region is particularly well suited to exploring by bicycle, with dedicated routes connecting Den Bosch to rural landscapes, villages and historic towns. Heusden, with its restored ramparts, cobbled streets, galleries and picturesque harbour, makes an appealing half-day excursion.

This variety makes Bernardus especially attractive for couples and mixed-interest groups. While one guest plays the course, another can explore Den Bosch, spend time in nature or enjoy Bernardus’ leisure facilities before meeting again later in the day.

Sabine Riezebos, General Manager of Bernardus, shared: “Many guests first discover Bernardus through golf, but there is so much more to experience during a visit. Den Bosch, the surrounding countryside and the wider North Brabant region offer culture, food, nature and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, all within easy reach. The Bernardus Experience is about creating lasting memories throughout the whole stay, whether on the course, around the table, at The Lodge or while exploring the region.”

Approximately one hour from Amsterdam, Bernardus is accessible from Amsterdam Schiphol, Eindhoven and Rotterdam airports, as well as Düsseldorf and Brussels, making it well positioned for short breaks and wider European itineraries.
