Seed Golf has unveiled the second generation of its ultra-soft feel SD-05, providing ultimate control from anywhere on the golf course.

Rebranded as ‘The Pro Feel’, the SD-05 has been one of the stars of Seed’s range since launching in 2017 and is set to further grow in popularity with the release of the improved model.

With a larger core and thinner cover, the award-winning ball now provides a softer feel, faster ball speed and more iron spin than ever before.

Dean Klatt, founder and CEO of Seed Golf, said: “We’re always looking for ways to improve the performance of every Seed we produce, so continual improvement is one of our design mantras here.

“Across every element of golf ball construction, from the aerodynamics down to the core, we’re always looking at new ways to improve performance and consistency for regular golfers.

“The SD-05 has a cult following; people love the feel, and the feedback was that they would love some more speed too. So, we challenged our designers here at SETU to see if they could improve the performance of the ball while still keeping the soft feel the SD-05 is renowned for.”

The new generation SD-05 is available in both white and YellowAF colourways, with an unchanged pricing starting from £25 per dozen.

About the SD-05

The ball’s Polybutadiene Rubber core has been increased in size and reformulated, with the addition of three key additives to optimize ball speed while keeping the soft feel the SD-05 is known for.

Redesigned Low Compression SeedSpeed Core – Zinc Oxide and Zinc Diacrylate additives: Increase resilience and contribute to faster ball speeds by enhancing the core’s energy transfer properties.

Polymeric Plasticizers – New formulation incorporates a small amount of plasticizers to soften the feel without compromising resilience or speed.

Neodymium Catalysts – Improved polymer cross-linking boosts elasticity and energy transfer efficiency.

The mantle layer has been modified by the use of a softer polymer blend to help balance the increased power of the core to provide a softer feel off the club face, and more spin through the irons.

Combining the high-performance core formulation, advanced additives and low-compression mantle layer with a thinner, softer urethane cover, the designers at Seed have achieved more ball speed while still maintaining the feel and control of the original SD-05.

By combining these high-performance rubber formulations, advanced additives, and precision manufacturing processes, Seed has been able to engineer a tour ball design that delivers both high ball speeds and a soft feel suitable for golfers across a spectrum of abilities.

Alongside the flagship SD-01, low-flying SD-X1 and ultra-durable SD-15, the SD-05 remains one of Seed’s best-selling balls, including via the brand’s subscription-based direct-to-consumer model. Seed also produces a wide range of apparel, bags and training aids available to buy online.

Seed Golf reported a record-breaking sales growth of 129 per cent across 2024, and in January announced ambitious plans to scale up operations both natively and globally, with new distribution channels launching in the US, Australia and South Africa throughout 2025.
