Frilford Heath Golf Club, Oxfordshire’s 54-hole championship golf estate, welcomed some of the world’s top amateur golfers last week as it played host to The R&A Women’s and Men’s Senior Amateur Championships.
Played across the Club’s acclaimed Red and Blue Courses, the championships showcased Frilford Heath’s classic heathland golf experience – and was widely praised by competitors, including both winners who had travelled from the United States.
Men’s Senior Amateur Champion Bryan Hoops, who shot 10-under-par for four rounds, including a blistering final round of six-under-par 66, said: “Frilford Heath has been a fantastic venue for these championships. The course conditioning was exceptional, and the greens were among the best I’ve played all year. They provided a true championship test, and you could see the amount of work that had gone into preparing the courses.”
Women’s Senior Amateur Champion Lara Tennant, who won by five shots after finishing two-over-par for four rounds, said: “Everyone at Frilford Heath made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. It has been a wonderful championship, and I’d like to thank all of the staff, volunteers and everyone at the Club who worked so hard to make it such a memorable week.”
The prestigious championships attracted an international field of elite amateur golfers competing for two of the most coveted titles in senior amateur golf, with the champions gaining exemptions into The Senior Open at Gleneagles (July 23–26, 2026), the US Senior Amateur Championship at Baltimore Country Club (August 29–September 3, 2026) and the US Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Portland Golf Club (September 26–October 1, 2026).

Frilford Heath joins an illustrious list of recent host venues for the championships, including Walton Heath, Saunton, Woodhall Spa, Royal Dornoch and Ganton. The event represents another significant chapter in the Club’s proud history of staging elite amateur and professional golf.
Founded in 1908, Frilford Heath features three championship courses across its 450-acre estate and continues to build on its reputation as one of England’s leading venues for championship golf.
