Finca Cortesin, host venue of the 2023 Solheim Cup, has announced the addition of a new putting green to its world-class practice facilities.
Strategically located at the first hole, the new green will act as both an additional space for putting practice while also serving as the White Tee Box for advanced golfers and tournament play.
The upgrades are also set against the sublime backdrop of hole 4, which was played as the opening hole during the Solheim Cup – a driveable par-4 that encourages players to reach the green with their tee shots, accompanied with a large lake along the left side of the fairway.
Director of Golf José Ignacio Olea said: “At Finca Cortesin we are committed to offering facilities that reflect the same standards of excellence as our championship course.
“The introduction of this new putting green not only enhances the practice experience for our members and guests, but also underscores our dedication to providing world-class amenities in a truly unique setting. Positioned on the opening hole, with views that captured the spirit of the Solheim Cup, it represents both a functional improvement and an expression of the quality that defines Finca Cortesin.”
It has been more than two years since the home favourite Carlota Ciganda inspired Team Europe to the first tie in Solheim Cup history, a 14–14 draw that secured the trophy’s retention for a third consecutive time—an unprecedented achievement for Europe in the most dramatic of circumstances.
Finca Cortesin, which hosted the Volvo World Matchplay three times between 2009 and 2012, also welcomed King Felipe VI to present the trophy to the winners at one of the most sought-after venues on the Andalusian coast, the first venue in Southern Europe and Spain to host the Solheim Cup.
Amendments to the first tee follow on from the work carried out upon Finca Cortesin’s Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy enhancing every aspect of its technology, as well as introducing the well-established Sportsbox technology, a markerless motion-capture system delivering fully 3D swing analysis from just a single camera or smartphone.
These additions continue to place Finca Cortesin, nominated Europe’s Best Golf Venue in 2022, as one of the continent’s most advanced facilities and leading golf destinations.
