– Educational and vocational opportunities for young people in Catalonia

– Free golf lessons for children and young people at PGA National Academy

– Biodiversity and conservation management across Spain’s No.1 Golf Resort

Camiral, Spain’s No.1 Golf Resort, has announced the establishment of Fundació Camiral, a foundation to benefit young people, communities and the environment as part of its 2031 Ryder Cup legacy commitment.

The resort and 540-hectare forested estate, an hour north of Barcelona, is collaborating with neighbouring municipalities and specialist organisations to deliver opportunities focused on education, sport, access to employment, conservation and biodiversity.

Fundació Camiral has a clear purpose: to create a lasting impact. Its aim is to support the long-term wellbeing of the communities around the 36-hole resort while protecting the natural environment.

Through partnerships and collaborations with local organisations, the Foundation is creating programmes focused on:

1. Education, Mentorship, Vocations

Camiral is working with The Impulsa Foundation to support young people from Caldes de Malavella, Sils and Vilobí in accessing education, mentorship, and vocational opportunities. The initiative is focused on creating greater equality of opportunity for young people in socially and economically vulnerable situations. Camiral will fund scholarships and training support designed to help future generations grow with confidence and ambition.

2. Golf For The Next Generation

Since 2025, Camiral has offered complimentary golf lessons to children and young people from local schools at the PGA National Academy. The programme introduces golf in an accessible and inspiring way, encouraging participation from an early age. By opening the sport to local communities, the initiative also helps young people explore future pathways within golf and hospitality.

3. Biodiversity And Nature Conservation

The management and upkeep of the resort is overseen in collaboration with the renowned environmental organisation Conservation of Natural Ecosystems (CEN). The methodology differs from traditional golf course management and aligns with the policies established in the European Green Deal and the EU biodiversity strategy 2020-2030. Since 2015, Camiral has integrated biodiversity and conservation into its daily operations. Often, these are closer to measures taken in nature reserves rather than golf courses. The resort is now a sanctuary to 130 species of birds. Other protected and threatened species at home here include eels, fire salamanders, western barn owls, and otters, alongside numerous invertebrates and plants. Camiral’s commitment to conservation has another important dividend. The resort now acts as a connecting hub between the protected natural areas that surround it, include Sils Lake and Aiguamolls de L’Empordà.

The entire team at Camiral is excited at the prospect of The Ryder Cup coming to Barcelona in 2031. Alongside planning for the greatest match ever on Continental European soil, they are striving for a meaningful and enduring legacy that benefits the people and places of the Costa Brava and Catalonia region.

Located just outside Girona and one hour north of Barcelona, Camiral is home to the five-star Hotel Camiral, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Together with its two championship golf courses, state-of-the-art Wellness Centre and culinary offering, the resort continues to position itself as one of Europe’s premier destinations for luxury travel, golf and gastronomy.
