Celtic Manor Resort will host the world’s most talented golfers with disabilities when The G4D Open is staged in Wales for the first time in 2026.

As part of a new three-year agreement, the Championship will also be held at the renowned venue in 2027 and 2028.

Established in 2023, The G4D Open – held in partnership by The R&A and the DP World Tour and supported by EDGA (formally the European Disabled Golf Association) – took place for a third time over the Duchess Course at Woburn in May, with Brendan Lawlor and Daphne van Houten the respective men’s and women’s winners.

Building on the success of the last three years, Celtic Manor will now welcome one of the most inclusive championships ever staged from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 May 2026.

A field of 80 male and female amateur and professional golfers from across the world will compete over 54 holes of stroke play gross competition on the Roman Road Course, featuring nine sport classes across multiple impairment groups which cover categories in Standing, Intellectual, Visual and Sitting.

Celtic Manor has a rich history of staging leading amateur and professional events, including hosting the Ryder Cup in 2010 when Colin Montgomerie captained Europe to victory over the USA.

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director – Championships at The R&A, said, “The G4D Open is an important part of our drive to demonstrate golf is accessible and welcoming to all while inspiring and encouraging more people with a disability to take up the sport.

“We look forward to taking The G4D Open to Celtic Manor for the next three years and continuing the development of the Championship. We also want to thank Woburn Golf Club and The Duke of Bedford for supporting The G4D Open as we now prepare for further success in Wales.”

Maria Grandinetti Milton, Director of Sustainability at the DP World Tour, added, “The G4D Open holds its place as one of the most inclusive golf championships in the world and it’s been a pleasure to watch its growth over the past three years.

“The G4D Open is filled with inspirational stories and an incredible standard of golf. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Woburn Golf Club for their fantastic support in staging the Championship since its founding in 2023. The Championship is now entering an exciting new era at Celtic Manor, a venue steeped in history as a former Ryder Cup venue.”

Celtic Manor’s Roman Road Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, staged three editions of the Wales Open on the DP World Tour from 2005-2007 while the Twenty Ten Course was being built for the Ryder Cup. It also played host to the Wales Senior Open in 2015 and 2016.

Julie Hammond, Celtic Manor Resort Chief Executive, said, “We are thrilled to be hosting The G4D Open for the next three years and I am sure the picturesque Roman Road Course will provide a fantastic stage for these talented golfers to showcase their skills.

“Having hosted the Invictus Golf Challenge last year and worked with ISPS HANDA as title sponsor of the Wales Open for three years, we know all about the power of golf as an inclusive and accessible sport. We look forward to seeing more inspiring golf at The G4D Open and supporting the development of the game for people with disabilities.”

With the AIG Women’s Open taking place at Royal Porthcawl earlier this summer – the largest women’s sporting event ever held in Wales – the staging of The G4D Open at Celtic Manor continues an exciting period of golf for the country.

Jack Sargeant, Welsh Government Sports Minister, said, “I am pleased that we will be supporting The G4D Open to take place at the Celtic Manor Resort next year.

“It is an important event in the disabled sport calendar for both amateurs and professionals and will offer tourism and economic benefits and showcase Wales as a key destination for people with a disability.”

Tony Bennett, the President of EDGA, added, “We at EDGA are proud to support the delivery of The G4D Open at Celtic Manor, a world class venue in the heart of Wales.

“The Championship is a powerful opportunity to showcase the benefits of golf for the disabled, not only to local communities but also to a global audience. We’re committed to ensuring The G4D Open impact goes far beyond championship week to inspire new communities to see that golf is a sport where everyone can feel welcomed.”

The G4D Open is also an event on the G4D Tour, which is operated by the DP World Tour. Launched in 2022, it includes the best ranked Gross and Net players from the WR4GD and its tournaments are played on the same course, in the same week, as flagship DP World Tour events.
